Abstract:
We perceive time as a passage of events, a marker of change. In astronomy and astrophysics, we study events occurring over a short time (order of seconds) to long-term (a few years) variability. Accurate time stamping is essential while recording and analyzing these events. An accurate time server is needed in the local network to ensure precision time. This project is to implement a Stratum-1 network time server at Kodaikanal Solar Observatory using a GPS receiver module and a Raspberry Pi.
Similarly, all astronomical observations in the optical spectrum depend on the local weather conditions. A dedicated weather station is an integral part of any observatory. This project also aims to implement continuous weather monitoring and logging using Boltwood Cloud Sensor II connected to the same single-board computer hosting the time server.
